Instagram Post copy copy.png

Tune in to hear about our holiday stocking-along progress. Plus, Rumpel shares what she discovered about the tradition of hanging stockings. We also do a fun "show & tell" to celebrate another Handmade Monday of recording together. Plus, have you ever been on a strict yarn diet or cheated on one? We certainly have! Listen in to hear all about yarn-dieting attempts and recent cheating. We just had to buy more yarn for blanket projects and commissioned knits. We just can’t resist yarn! Why diet when you can dye it?

SHOW NOTES

Handmade Monday!

Frog sported her top down raglan crew neck sweater she designed! She took a class with Erin Holman at Webs a bit ago and created this custom-fit top from her own body measurements - GO FROG! Amy’s sweater was knit in Cascade 220 / worsted.

Rumpel wasn’t wearing any hand-made items this week, but instead shared some tiny bunny heads she’s knitting of her own design. This tiny taxidermy cottontail is originally from Noël’s book Microdermy Knits, but all her patterns are unavailable until after the New Year while she updates everything for a fresh look.

Stocking-along Progress!

Both Frog & Rumpel are making great progress on their stockings… how about you?

Frog has finished knitting one stocking from the Knit Picks Merry Knitmas Collection, featuring reindeer and using some festive Scandinavian colors. She’s on to stocking number two now! She also recommends Arne & Carlos steam blocking video tutorial if you’re interested in this sort of finishing, which is what she’ll be doing for her stockings.

Rumpel is still knitting her slightly modified version of Olive’s Christmas Stocking from Knitting for Olive and had to make some minor adjustments… she broke the cardinal rule of knitting and didn’t buy enough yarn! Oh well, a slight alteration to the design and on she goes!

In the spirit of “knitmas” and our stocking-along, we thought it’d be fun to share just a wee bit of how hanging stockings in our homes for Santa to fill came to be!

Saint Nicholas was a Christian bishop in the 4th century living in Myra, Asia Minor. He was known for his generosity to others and it is this attribute along with a host of other merging ideas from other beliefs that St. Nicholas eventually became known to us as Santa Claus, or Jolly ‘ol Saint Nick… mind you we are talking about just one snippet of the myriad of different beliefs, traditions and customs here and not the whole story. Our focus is just about the tradition of hanging stockings. Listen to the episode to hear one version of the stocking tradition’s origin!

Yarn Dieting….or not.

Both Rumpel and Frog are, or were, on a yarn diet…. it didn’t last for some reason. One of the reasons Frog had to break from her diet was to get more yarn to coordinate with her blanket she’s working on now. She’s hand dyed some beautiful colors and needs more black as the contrast color. Tune in for more details!
